About

Studio Nomad is Sara Sidler.
An independent graphic designer and art director based in Zurich, Switzerland. I work with businesses, cultural institutions and individuals on thoughtful visual identities, editorial design, websites and printed matter. Every project is different. That’s exactly what keeps it exciting.

I enjoy developing concepts, asking questions and creating visual solutions that feel honest, clear and long-lasting. Whether it’s building a brand from the ground up or refining an existing one, I value close collaboration and a process shaped by curiosity, trust and attention to detail.

I can do a lot, but not everything. Luckily, over the years I’ve built a trusted network of illustrators, photographers, developers, filmmakers, writers and other creatives. Depending on the project, we assemble the right team to bring ideas to life.

Whether you have a project in mind, a challenge to solve, or simply feel like having a coffee – I’d love to hear from you.

Services

Every collaboration is different, but most projects fall somewhere within these areas:

Brand Strategy

Every project starts with understanding. Together we explore what makes your brand unique, who you’re speaking to and how you want to be perceived. A clear strategy creates the foundation for thoughtful design and helps every decision feel intentional.

Brand Identity

A visual identity is more than a logo. It’s a system of typography, colour, imagery and graphic elements that gives your brand a recognisable and consistent voice. I create identities that are simple, timeless and flexible — designed to grow with your business.

Web Design

A website should feel like a natural extension of your brand. I design websites that balance aesthetics with usability, creating digital experiences that are thoughtful, intuitive and easy to navigate. For development, I collaborate with trusted partners to ensure every project is brought to life with the same attention to detail.

Printed Matter

Design doesn’t end on a screen. I create books, brochures, annual reports, printed matter and packaging that translate ideas into tangible experiences. From concept to production, every detail is carefully considered — balancing typography, materials and craftsmanship to create work that feels both purposeful and lasting.

Art Direction

Some projects call for a broader perspective. From developing visual concepts to coordinating creative teams, I help shape a coherent direction across photography, film, illustration and design — bringing together the right people to create something meaningful.

Process

Good design doesn’t start with a sketch. It starts with listening, asking questions and understanding the people behind a project. Whether it’s a visual identity, a publication or a website, I believe that thoughtful design grows from curiosity, collaboration and clarity.

How do you approach a new project?

Every project starts with a conversation. Before thinking about colours, typography or layouts, I want to understand the people behind the project. What motivates them? What challenges are they facing? What do they want others to feel, remember or experience? The better I understand the context, the more meaningful the design becomes.

What does your process look like?

There isn’t one fixed process. Every project is different, and I believe the process should adapt accordingly. Some projects begin with a strategy workshop, others with an existing concept or a simple idea. What remains constant is a collaborative way of working, open communication and the curiosity to ask the right questions before looking for answers.

Why do you spend so much time asking questions?

Because good design isn’t about personal taste. It’s about understanding people.

The questions I ask help uncover motivations, values and patterns that often aren’t obvious at first. Taking time to understand the bigger picture allows us to make design decisions that feel intentional rather than arbitrary. In the end, thoughtful design creates trust because it reflects who you are — not just how you want to look.

What if I don't know exactly what I need?

That’s completely fine. Many projects begin with uncertainty rather than a clear brief. Together we define the challenge, explore different directions and find clarity along the way. Often, discovering the right question is just as important as finding the right solution.

Do you work alone?

Most of the time, yes. For larger or more specialised projects, I collaborate with a trusted network of developers, photographers, illustrators, filmmakers, writers and other creatives. This allows every project to benefit from the right expertise while keeping communication personal and direct.
